1 Samuel 16:7 Comparing NKJV Billy Graham Training Center, TESB, NLT New Believer’s Greg Laurie, GNB TEV Nelson 362 BG

1 Samuel 16:7 NKJV Billy Graham Training Center But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Psalm 73:11-19 NKJV Billy Graham Training Center And they say, “How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?”

Behold, these are the ungodly, Who are always at ease; They increase in riches.

Surely have cleansed my heart in vain, And washed my hands in innocence.

For all day long I have been plagued, And chastened every morning.

Ihad said, “will speak thus,” Behold, would have been untrue to the generation of Your children.

When thought how to understand this, It was too painful for me–

Until went into the sanctuary of God; Then understand their end.

Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.

Oh, how they are brought to destruction, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

Luke 12:15 NKJV Billy Graham Training Center And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

Mark 8:36-37 NKJV Billy Graham Training Center For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

1 Timothy 6:6-8 NKJV Billy Graham Training Center Now godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we carry nothing out.

And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

1 Samuel 16:7 TESB But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or his stature because have rejected him. Humans do not see what the LORD sees, for humans see what is visible, but the LORD sees the heart.”

Psalm 73:11-19 TESB The wicked say, “How can God know? Does the Most High know everything?”

Look at them–the wicked! They are always at ease, and they increase their wealth.

Did I purify my heart and wash my hands in innocence for nothing?

For I am afflicted all day long and punished every morning.

If had decided to say these things aloud, would have betrayed your people.

When I tried to understand all this, it seemed hopeless

until I entered God’s sanctuary. Then I understood their destiny.

Indeed, you put them in slippery places; you make them fall into ruin.

How suddenly they become a desolation! They come to an end, swept away by terrors.

Luke 12:15 TESB He then told them, “Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”

Mark 8:36-37 TESB For what does it benefit someone to gain the whole world and yet lose his life?

What can anyone give in exchange for his life?

1 Timothy 6:6-8 TESB But godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out.

1 Samuel 16:7 NLT New Believer’s Greg Laurie But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for have rejected him.  The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Psalm 73:11-19 NLT New Believer’s Greg Laurie “What does God know?” they ask, “Does the Most High even know what’s happening?”

Look at these wicked people–enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply.

Did I keep my heart pure for nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason?

I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain.

If I had really spoken this way to others, I would have been a traitor to your people.

So I tried to understand why the wicked prosper. But what a difficult task it is!

Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and finally understood the destiny of the wicked.

Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.

In an instant they are destroyed, completely swept away by terrors.

Luke 12:15 NLT New Believer’s Greg Laurie Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed.  Life is not measured by how much you own.”

Mark 8:36-37 NLT New Believer’s Greg Laurie If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

1 Timothy 6:6-8 NLT New Believer’s Greg Laurie Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.

After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it.

So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

1 Samuel 16:7 GNB TEV Nelson 362 BG But the LORD said to him, “Pay no attention to how tall and handsome he is. have rejected him, because do not judge as man judges. Man looks at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart.”

Psalm 73:11-19 GNB TEV Nelson 362 BG They say, “God will not know; the Most High will not find out.”

That is what the wicked are like, They have plenty and are always getting more.

Is it for nothing, then, that have kept myself pure and have not committed sin?

O God, you have made me suffer all day long; every morning you have punished me.

If had said such things, would not be acting as one of your people.

tried to think this problem through, but is was too difficult for me

until went into your Temple. Then understood what will happen to the wicked.

You will put them in slippery places and make them fall to destruction!

They are instantly destroyed; they go down to a horrible end.

Luke 12:15 GNB TEV Nelson 362 BG And he went on to say to them all, “Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because a person’s true life is not made up of the things he owns, no matter how rich he may be.”

Mark 8:36-37 GNB TEV Nelson 362 BG Does a person gain anything if he wins the whole world but loses his life? Of course not!

There is nothing he can give to regain his life.

1 Timothy 6:6-8 GNB TEV Nelson 362 BG Well, religion does make a person very rich, if he is satisfied with what he has.

What did we bring into the world? Nothing! What can we take out of the world? Nothing!

So then, if we have food and cloths, that should be enough for us.
