Luke 4:16-21 In detail From NKJV Macarthur SB to

Opening Scriptures before the Message

Isaiah 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:19-21 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;

knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,

for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

How to hear and understand the Gospel

The LORD Reveals His Omnipotence to Job

Job 38:1-3 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said;

“Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge?

Now prepare yourself like a man; will question you, and you shall answer Me.

GOD’S Challenge to Job

Job 40:6-7 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said;

“Now prepare yourself like a man; will question you, and you shall answer Me.

Job 42:4-7 Listen, please, and let me speak; You said, ‘I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’

have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You.

Therefore abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.”

And so it was, after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, that the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.

Israel Rejects the Gospel

Romans 10:14-17 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written; “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “LORD, who has believed our report?”

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Acts 26:17-18 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,

to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’

Romans 15:4-7 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be likeminded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,

that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Glorify GOD Together

Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.

Here is Today’s Message

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

Luke 4:16-21 NKJV Macarthur SB So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.

And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.

The GOOD NEWS of Salvation

Isaiah 61:1-3 NKJV Macarthur SB “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound:

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,

To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”

Christ is Preached to an Ethiopian

Acts 8:26-38 NKJV Macarthur SB Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes gown from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert.

So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury. and had come to Jerusalem to worship,

was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.

Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”

So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?

And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me? And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.

The place in the Scripture which he read was this: (also Isaiah 53:7-8)He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

In His humiliation His justice was taken away, And who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.”

So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?”

Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.

Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?”

Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “believe that Jesus Christ in the Son of God.”

So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

Luke 24:25-27 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”

And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

John 5:39-47 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.

But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

do not receive honor from men.

But know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.

have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.

How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?

Do not think that shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you–Moses, in whom you trust.

For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.

But if you do not believe his writing, how will you believe My words?”

Romans 10:12-15 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written; “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
